The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is a rich, subtropical country with palm filled gullies, eucalypt forests and plantations, and clear rivers and creeks. Main Sunshine Coast Hinterland towns
Caboolture is located on the southern end of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. You cannot only easily access the coast or the hinterland from here, but the Brisbane, the state capital, is only half an hour away to the south.
Gympie is the largest town in the Mary Valley, and the centre of an important agricultural region. Local produce include a variety of tropical fruit and nuts, and diary products. You can still fossick for gold in the Gympie area, or go for a ride on the Valley Rattler steam train through the Mary Valley.
Landsborough is located north of the Glasshouse Mountains and is the southern gateway to the Blackall Range.
Maleny is an old diary and timber town and has preserved much of its history and rural charm. Maple Street provides something for everybody: eateries, art and crafts, bookshops and local produce.
Mapleton is at the northern end of the Blackall Range, and is best known for the Mapleton Lilyponds and the Mapleton Falls.
Montville is positioned on a narrow ridge about 450m high, and provides sweeping views over the Sunshine Coast. Montville has a thousand things to offer to tourists: specialised gift and craft shops, restaurants etc.
Nambour is the administrative centre, and the location of the main hospital in the area. Once known as Sugar Town, it is now the local hub for the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and is located on the main train line to Brisbane.
