About the Blue Mountains
The magic of the Blue Mountains in NSW is that the city hardly makes a dent in the wilderness of the Blue Mountains. Found here is the world's highest density of eucalypt species and 400 different kinds of animals. There are places humans have never visited. Katoomba is the biggest town in the Blue Mountains and the region's capital. From here there are 26 townships and villages strung along a 60km urban strip.

Blue Mountains - Fine Food and Wine with Attitude Fair- April or May
This terrific festival is held in Blackheath at the Blue Mountains. You will get to taste and experience magic cool-climate wines through tastings and stalls.

Blue Mountains - Yulefest- July and August
Every year between June and August the area revels in Yulefest, while Christmas is celebrated in July. Festivities are at a peak when the Winter Magic Festival in Katoomba, with a fantastic street parade, market stalls and plenty of activity and fun, welcomes the Winter solstice.
Leura Garden Festival
A collection of nine private gardens, rarely accessible to the public opens every year for the Leura Garden Festival, along with the National Trust property Everglades which has one of Australia’s foremost heritage gardens that combine European-style, native bush and breathtaking views of the Blue Mountains National Park.
Leura Gardens Festival is held annually in the beginning of October.

Climate
The climate and weather in the Blue Mountains is said to have the world's most equitable climate. Uniquely and substantially different climates exist close together in the Blue Mountains. Faulconbridge’s elevation at the foot of the mountains is 439m (1463ft), Katoomba is at 1017m (3570ft), more than twice the elevation. The higher towns then are colder and get more rain also having snow fall at least once a year. There is a mild temperature range, rainfall evenly distributed though out the year, a high percentage of oxygen in the air and mild humidity range. The range of the overall temperature is mild.

Transport:
Driving yourself around the Blue Mountains is an economical way to get an overview of the terrain before enlisting the help of an experienced driver who can tell you the history or answer those little questions you've been wondering since you arrived.
There are many tour buses that run sight seeing tours around the Blue Mountains.
To get to the Blue Mountains, you can catch a train to Katoomba from Sydney.
